JOB SUMMARY
The Instructional Designer works closely with the Center for Teaching and Learning team to manage continuous quality improvement for all academic courses; consults, trains, and serves as a resource person to the faculty, administrators, and instructional staff in design, development, evaluation, and revision of teaching, learning, and assessment needs; facilitates the implementation of instructional innovations, and assists in staff development on instructional applications of technologies and instructional methods; researches and applies new pedagogical standards, best practices, and technologies to develop and deliver a robust learning experience for students and improve instructional outcomes for the college.

- Support college faculty and subject-matter experts in the design, development, and delivery of all academic courses through collaboration and knowledge of instructional design.
- Design and educate faculty on quiz functions, assignments, rubrics, and grading within the Canvas learning management system.
- Learn new software quickly and explore and demonstrate the features of the LMS.
- Consult with faculty on appropriate instructional technology and resources to ensure efficient use, application, and functionality for improving achievement of learning outcomes.
- Work with Assessment and Curriculum coordinator to ensure instructors’ Learning Outcomes are addressed in their syllabus.
- Guide the design, development, and integration of multimedia materials.
- Research current trends and scholarship in learning, instructional design, teaching and learning with technology, and distance education.
- Apply best practices in course design, as well as assure fair use and copyright, and ADA compliance.
- Create and update Canvas for Departments, Student Organizations and clubs.
- Assist with the administrative tasks, including setup, maintenance, and organization of the college LMS CANVAS.
- Attend regular meetings, committees, and training sessions.
- Attend appropriate conferences, workshops, webinars, and other professional development activities.
- Develop and deliver the CANVAS student orientation.
- Assist the Deans in evaluating all modalities of courses for content, rigor, and andragogy.
Documentation & Training:
- Develop and conduct technology orientation sessions and documentation for new student, staff, and employee orientations.
- Provide Canvas Orientations for students and faculty.
- Develop and deliver trainings for faculty in course design and the use of instructional technology in face-to-face, hybrid, synchronous, and online modalities.
- Review and evaluate Center for Teaching and Learning training programs to ensure the needs of the college are being fulfilled.
Assist the Center and Teaching and Learning team to:
- Hardware and/or software troubleshooting experience.
- Work with faculty and staff creating accessible documents, videos and other types of media.
- Work within Canvas to ensure the components meet accessibility requirements.
- Recommend standards, procedures, and techniques to improve the Center for Teaching and Learning.
NON-ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves on College committees as assigned.
- Other duties as assigned.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES NEEDED TO PERFORM THIS ROLE
- Exceptional interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills.
- Ability to establish priorities and achieve deadlines.
- Manage multiple projects simultaneously from initial stages through to completion.
- Ability to build and sustain productive working relationships with faculty, staff, administration, and other stakeholders.
- Comfortable with multiple models of instructional design, as well as knowledge of best practices in face to face, online and hybrid e-learning.
- Polished, professional demeanor.
- Quality Matters APPQMR Certified preferred.
- CidiLabs DesignPlus experience preferred.
- Bilingual preferred.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORKING CONDITIONS
- Frequently moving from stationary sitting positions to standing and walking.
Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in Instructional Design or related field.
- Expertise in face to face, on-line, and hybrid andragogy.
- Prior experience with multiple LMS platforms including CANVAS.
- Two or more years’ teaching experience in higher education preferred.
- Demonstrable expertise in the use of a variety of software applications (e.g., Zoom and Camtasia).
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $48,284.00 - $85,046.00 per year
