Position Summary 
Reporting to the Director of TRIO, the Program Counselor’s role is instrumental in 
guiding and empowering high school students for their journey into higher 
education. The counselor will assess their academic abilities, facilitate social-
emotional learning activities, and aid in career exploration. They will recruit 
participants and set individualized goals for their academic, personal, and 
financial success. Organizing educational excursions and conducting informative 
sessions, the counselor will assist students with college applications and financial 
aid and ensure they receive the necessary support. Building positive 
relationships with school stakeholders and community partners, the counselor
will advocate for diversity and inclusion initiatives while professionally 
representing our program and university. The counselor must be enthusiastic 
about working with high school students and passionate about student success. 
This position requires evening and weekend hours.
 
Essential Functions 
Counsels, advises and prepares participants for success in post-
secondary education. 
Determines student eligibility for acceptance into the Program. 
Develops measurable personal, academic, and financial objectives for 
each Program participant. 
Assists Program participants at partner high schools in Yonkers Public 
School District in exploring career pathways and promoting career-
readiness initiatives. 
Organizes and leads college/educational trips and hosts engaging 
academic, college access, and career readiness sessions. 
Assists participants in their college search, helps prepare applications, 
and offers guidance in the admissions process. Ensures that students with 
various needs, learning styles, and disabilities receive appropriate support 
at their next institution. 
Monitors planning and completion of financial aid applications and 
provides other services as needed. 
Maintains positive relationships with Partner School Administration, 
community-based organizations, and parents by collaboratively working to 
ensure students’ success and promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion 
initiatives. 
Manages and delivers student outcome data for an assigned group of 
students. 
Represents TRIO Programs and Fordham University in a professional 
manner at conferences, student trips, and with high school partner 
schools.

Required Qualifications: Education and Experience 
Baccalaureate degree required in education, social work, psychology, or 
related field. 
Minimum of one year of experience in educational opportunity programs 
 
Required Qualifications: Knowledge and Skills 
Demonstrated ability to work successfully with a culturally diverse and 
educationally/economically disadvantaged student population. 
Knowledge of academic, personal, and group counseling, as well as 
individual and group techniques. 
Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build 
consensus, foster collaboration, and inspire others 
Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced 
environment 
Proficiency in Google and Microsoft Office suites 
Successful candidates should have a knowledge of and commitment to 
the goals of Jesuit Education. 
 
Preferred Qualifications 
Master’s degree 
 
Minimum Starting Salary: $50,000 
 
Maximum Starting Salary: $51,000 
 
Note: Salary is commensurate with qualifications, experience, and skills.
