SUMMARY

The Associate Provost of Instructional Support and Institutional Planning (ISIP) provides College-level leadership for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of instructional support and institutional planning departments and initiatives. Working closely with the Provost and the President, and in collaboration with leaders in Academic and Student Affairs, the Associate Provost guides the work of strategic planning, institutional accreditation, curriculum development and support, learning outcomes assessment, academic program viability, faculty onboarding and professional development, and external transfer/academic program partnerships.

The Associate Provost of ISIP provides leadership and oversight of the following: Academic Support & Tutoring Services; Academic Testing Services; Curriculum Support, Department of Experiential Learning (which houses Academic Service Learning, the Honors Program, and Study Away); Library and Learning Commons; Student Records; Teaching, Learning, and Distance Education; and Transfer Bridges to the University of Michigan program. The Associate Provost leads the Strategic Leadership Team and will serve on the Academic Governing Council Executive Team at the request of the Provost.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS 

  • Provides College-level leadership for the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of ISIP initiatives.
  • In accordance with College governance structures, develops policies and processes for ISIP-related programs and services.
  • Works collaboratively with Academic and Student Affairs faculty and staff to encourage best practices in pedagogy, curriculum, and assessment, as well as the other ISIP-related programs and services.
  • Works collaboratively with academic deans, associate deans, and/or program directors/department heads to lead the program review process to ensure academic rigor and program vitality.
  • Works collaboratively with academic deans, associate deans, and/or program directors/department heads to develop plans for the improvement and evaluation of faculty teaching, of curriculum quality and currency, and of assessment of student learning.
  • Works collaboratively with the Provost to administer the faculty evaluation system and to recognize and reward faculty excellence.  This includes co-leadership of the Faculty Evaluation System Team and support of the College-wide Cohort of Trained Evaluators.
  • Serves as the College¿s accreditation liaison officer for all aspects of the regional accreditation process.  Reviews Higher Learning Commission (HLC) protocol; interprets criteria, determines GRCC¿s strategy, plan, and response.  Ensures timely progress of required accreditation documentation, ensuring deadlines are met.  Oversees the preparation of all evaluative reports submitted to the HLC as well as managing site visits and required HLC events.
  • Provides day to day leadership and support for all strategic planning activities including the implementation of strategic goals and initiatives, organization of team meetings, support and training for goal and initiative leads.  Communicates regularly to the broader college community and external stakeholders information related to the strategic plan and leadership team.  Disseminates dashboard and reports to the Board of Trustees regarding strategic plan outcomes.
  • Works with the Provost and President to facilitate the consistent and responsible use of data for informed decision-making on campus and promote data literacy among the College¿s faculty and staff. 
  • Establishes and maintains annual department and team planning and reporting processes, as integrated into the college¿s structures, including the strategic planning and evaluation systems.
  • Communicates the work of ISIP to the College and the College to ISIP; updates stakeholder groups as needed.
  • Provides institutional updates on strategic planning and accreditation processes to the Board of Trustees, at the direction of the President.
  • Serves on the President¿s Cabinet, Provost/Deans¿ leadership group, Deans¿ Council, Academic Governing Council, and other teams/committees as directed by the Provost.
  • Leads the work to ensure the efficient and effective operations of all ISIP-related processes.
  • Ensures that the work of ISIP meets or surpasses all of the following: College policy mandates, state and federal reporting requirements, accreditation standards, copyright laws, GRCC intellectual property guidelines, and ADA requirements.
  • Remains current with best practices and new developments in all ISIP-related programs and services.
  • Monitors and responds to faculty and student satisfaction with instructional support and institutional planning.
  • Collects appropriate data and prepares reports for internal and external audiences related to ISIP.
  • Provides oversight for various standing and ad hoc committees, including the Curriculum Approval Team and the General Education Review Team, among others.
  • Manages ISIP budgets.
  • Maintains and builds relationships with community organizations and education partners.
  • Supports, supervises, and evaluates direct reports. Convenes regular meetings, establishes work expectations, and completes annual performance evaluations. 
  • Allocates resources and other systemic supports to promote professional development for direct reports. 
  • Actively participates in and retains membership in statewide and national organizations and activities that foster the maintenance and improvement of ISIP-related programs and services.
  • Monitors legislative activity at the State and Federal level and provides input to the legislative process as appropriate.
  • Performs other duties as assigned by the Provost

JOB SPECIFICATIONS

Education Credentials 

  • Master's degree from an accredited institution is required.
  • Doctoral degree is preferred.

Work Experience

  • Three (3) years of progress academic leadership experience required.
  • Experience in curriculum development and assessment, faculty development, and department planning required.
  • Experience working in a collective bargaining environment required.
  • Experience with accreditation and strategic planning preferred.
  • Full-time, tenure track teaching experience preferred.
  • Community college experience preferred.
  • Experience in the areas of distance education, transfer and articulation, tutoring, testing, library services, service learning, honors, and study away is desirable.

Skills

  • Professional travel required.
