NV5 is looking for a Civil Designer/Engineer to join our family of goal-oriented professionals in search of a rewarding career in support our fast-growing list of Power Delivery and Electric Vehicle (EV) infrastructure clients. This Civil Design Engineer would join NV5's Power Delivery and Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment (EVSE) programs. NV5 provides end-to-end services to fleet and property owners to assist with their clean transportation transition. We plan, design, and commission zero-emission infrastructure and vehicle projects for commercial public and fleet charging applications.
Our unique expertise spans the technical knowledge of EVs and EVSE, and includes ADA requirements, user ergonomics and cost-effective construction design. NV5's inclusion of utility coordination and full infrastructure engineering and design results in informed, construction-ready project deliverables. With hundreds of EVSE design projects completed, NV5 provides full EVSE design services and ongoing owner's representative support for construction quality assurance and commissioning (Cx).
Typical tasks include horizontal and vertical site-plan layout, earthwork and grading design, stormwater drainage design and report writing, and both wet and dry utility design. We're looking for an individual who enjoys working with and learning from others in a collaborative environment that could include electrical, structural and survey engineers, as well as landscape architects and public agency staff.
This is a remote position based in Southern California. Field visits are required.
The Civil Designer/Engineer will include the following roles:
- The successful candidate will oversee the planning, administration and design of the civil component underlying EV Charging infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrate design capabilities such as:
- Site planning, zoning, and special use permits; development of construction plans; off-site improvements; utility relocations; permitting; and construction phase services
- Site design, horizontal control, mass grading, detailed grading design
- Utilities design and storm drain system design
- Hydrologic and Hydraulic stormwater drainage analysis
- Public improvements design, including coordination of grading, drainage, and utilities design on site specific development or subdivision work
- Roadway design, both public and private
- Interpretation of field survey data, and ability to import and use survey data to develop and manage planimetric topography and digital terrain models (DTMs)
- Design, manage, and assist in production of construction documents, including plans, specifications, quantity takeoffs and construction costs.
- Be responsive and proactive, managing engineering activities to comply with budgets and schedules; identify departures or issues early to meet client expectations for technical excellence, budget, and schedule.
- Attend and provide front-end design guidance to the client
- Working knowledge of other renewable technologies that may be integrated into the design such as battery energy storage systems (BESS), Microgrids, and Solar PV.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the Division of State Architect (DSA) requirements and proficient knowledge of relevant local codes and industry standards.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering or related field.
- Engineer-In-Training (EIT) certification is a plus.
- Professional Engineering (PE) license in the state of California is a plus.
- AutoCAD Civil 3D proficiency required. Microstation/ORD is a plus.
- Civil Design Engineering experience within Power delivery/utilities/EV Infrastructure projects or other related design projects is highly desirable.
The pay range for this position in California is $85,000 to $110,000 per year. Base pay offered may be higher or lower depending on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and location of the candidate. Restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
